I finally got around to upgrading my 3 WordPress scripts to the new version - 2.5.1. I did the practice blog on my computer first - I have ‘Appache Friends - XAMPP’ on my computer. I install any php scripts on my computer first and play around with them before I upload the script to my web server. I didn’t have any problem upgrading this script - I had to look for a few things but I think I will eventually get used to where everything is. The Widget page is certainly a little different - I think I like the drag and drop method from the previous versions better but I shall see.
I then upgraded my main blog and everything went well - all of the plugins that I use in this blog seem to work with the new version. The script also works with the Talian theme. The final WP script I upgraded was one that I have been working with on another domain name - I have been playing around with using WordPress as a Content Management System. The upgrade went fairly smooth - the biggest problem I had was getting the WPG2 (WordPress Gallery 2) plugin to work properly. It didn’t take me long to fix the problem and all is well again I think.
I am always glad when I get my php scripts upgraded and working properly. I don’t usually have a big problem but one never knows. I always backup my database and my files just in case something goes wrong. It is better to be safe than sorry.
Now that I have the newest version of WordPress up and running - I can take a longer look at it and see if there is a big difference.
