Angel and I had a short break – now it feels like we are somewhat confined again. It certainly must feel this way to Angel.

It was back to the Vet again this week – Wednesday to see the Vet and Thursday for more surgery. Angel now has a hot spot on her neck which required anesthetic and lancing. She also had her teeth cleaned at the same time. I do give her dental chews (as recommended by the Vet) and her regular diet is food designed to help with plaque, tartar, etc. I do wonder if any of this does any good.

Angel is wearing the dreaded cone again to keep her from scratching the area. Mother has the job of doing her treatment and dispensing the medications. Hopefully I never mix up Angel’s medication and my medication.

Yesterday, I cut my grass and then had Angel outside to enjoy a nice cool breeze while I pulled some more weeds.

It is now getting warmer and more humidity is on the way. The good folks at the Vet’s office told me they have seen more allergies and skin problems this summer – in part due to the high heat and humidity.

Off to check on Angel now.

Angel and I got our ‘Out of Jail’ card the end of July – what a relief. It was so nice to remove the baby gate from the top of the stairs and to let Angel run and jump again. Actually, she was running before – the only way to stop that was to keep her on a leash or to keep her crated. It is nice to be back to some normalcy again.

I didn’t know if I would make it through the 10 weeks or not – 2 weeks after she tore the ligament and then a further 8 weeks following surgery. I was really getting tired the last 3 weeks – especially the last trip of the evening before bed time. I was tired and I had to carry her up the stairs – the Vet did agree I could let her go down stairs by then if I had her on a short leash and she went slowly. Apparently there is more pressure on the dog’s back legs climbing stairs as opposed to going down the stairs. It was particularly challenging if the deck steps were wet due to rain – I really had to be careful then. I hung unto the deck railing for dear life!!

It would have been nice if I would have received some help during this time but that was never to be. Everyone I know seems to be considerably older than I am so they are unable to do much except give advice.

Angel is sure enjoying her new found freedom again. It didn’t take long before she was finding her way down to the recreation room – this has been her favourite room for a long time. She loves to go down there and relax on the chesterfield. If I don’t see her upstairs, I know where to find her.

Time to get some supper – I have discovered my blood sugars are elevated lately so I am watching the sugar readings more closely.

I have been dog sitting my Bichon, Angel for nearly 6 weeks now. She decided on May 19 to race out of the bedroom and her intent was to race down the stairs to the recreation room. She managed one step and tore the ACL (anterior crucial ligament) in her left knee. I had just come home from an appointment in the afternoon and went into the bedroom to put my shoes away. I heard a couple of soft cries and went out to investigate. I won’t go into all the details but I made a phone call to the Vet’s office the next day and took Angel to see the Vet the following day (Friday). She was sure Angel had torn her ACL and I had to take her back the next Tuesday for anesthetic and x-rays. The x-rays confirmed that she indeed had torn the ACL and needed surgery. The surgery was done the following Wednesday – 2 weeks to the day that Angel tore the ligament. I had just taken Angel to the Vet 2 days before she hurt her leg – she had her annual exam, vaccines, heart worm test. When I left the office – I thought that should be it for another year. Ya, right!! I don’t think I will ever say that again.

I have spent about $2000. on Angel since the day she had her annual exam. The surgery alone was $1200. The treatment is pain patches for the initial couple of weeks, rest (which Angel doesn’t understand), cruciate surgery of course, ice pack on the suture line, manual exercise of the affected leg, (I feel like I am back nursing again) NO STAIRS, no jumping, etc. I have carried Angel up and down the deck stairs for the past 6 weeks and I have 4 more weeks to go – I don’t know if I will survive. It doesn’t matter which way I go when I leave my house – I have stairs to contend with. Thank goodness she isn’t a large dog and thank goodness it isn’t winter time. It is bad enough going up and down the deck stairs when it has rained – I hang on to the railing for dear life! I have slipped a couple of times but I haven’t fallen yet.

I am getting weary of the days and I am sure Angel is as well. I have the inside stairs blocked off with a baby gate that I used when she was a puppy. I have a piece of plywood on the love seat in my living room to stop her from jumping up. She did jump on to the love seat about 3 days after the surgery – I was ready to kill her! I came home with 2 pages of instructions following her surgery – they really stress the importance of the first 2 weeks and the dog not doing anything that will undo what was done at the time of surgery. Try and explain that to a dog. I am so glad when bed time comes again – this is how I felt when she was a puppy. When I get into bed – I am thankful I made it through another day.

Angel is now putting her leg down when she walks and bearing some weight. When she runs – she still holds her leg up. I tell her not to run but I might as well talk to the wall.

Speaking of bed time – it is time for me to take Angel out for her last trip and then off to the bed room to watch some TV. I think it is raining again – we didn’t have rain for a long time and now we are getting a fair bit. Angel is making good use of her yellow raincoat these days.

Goodnight from Gail and Angel

I was not born until the year after the Second World War was over – therefore, I have no recollection of the actual liberation of Holland by our Canadian troops. Over the years, there have been several celebrations to mark this event. The Dutch have never forgotten the Canadians for what they did. I have a DVD with video footage and I have a book by the same name which describes the liberation and the feeling of the Dutch. Even though I wasn’t around in 1945, it is so gratifying to know that Holland will always be grateful to Canadians for what they did 65 years ago.

Below is an article in our local newspaper written by Kathleen Harris. This article says what the Dutch and Canadians feel much better than I ever could.

It has been about one month since I have taken out a VIP Membership with Live365 Radio. I am thoroughly enjoying listening to various genres of music. The cost of the VIP Annual Membership is about $6 a month – to me, this is certainly worth every penny considering the enjoyment I am getting from this experience.

While I often listen to organ music, I also listen to Inspirational music sung by various choirs, Classical, Symphony, music from the fifties which takes me back to some of my growing up years. Live365 Radio has a genre for everyone. I have 25 station presets thus far – it is very easy to add and delete preset stations. Sometimes I listen to the music via the ear buds that came with my iPod – other times, I listen via one of my radios that has an iPod dock and I sometimes listen via my computer. You can download the Radio365 player for free and play the music on your computer – all of your preset stations are shown when you click on ‘My Presets’. All of the genres are also shown and you can choose more stations from the Radio365 player.

Happy listening.

I am a lover of the pipe organ – I enjoy church organ and also theatre organ. I came across Live365 this afternoon and have found 3 great organ music stations to start me off. I am currently listening to one of the stations (ATOS Theatre Organ Radio) on my iPod. Many years ago – I used to listen to a station on Sunday evening which played theatre organ from 9:00 – 10:00 PM. I haven’t heard much organ music on the radio since that station went off the air. I am elated to find Live365 and also the App for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

I just upgraded both my WordPress blogs (one is a test blog) using the automatic method. This is the first time since this option has been available that the automatic upgrade has worked! The secret was to delete the Upgrade folder in the WP-Contents folder – I saw this suggestion on the Total Choice Hosting Forum (I use TCH as my hosting company). Thanks TCH Bruce – hope this method will always be successful. I did deactivate my plugins before I started. I can manually upgrade but this method is faster for me if it works properly. Wonder when the next upgrade will be – sometimes they can be close together – that is why I am excited about the automatic attempt being successful.
