I intended to write this post sooner but computer work seems to take a back seat in my life this time of year. There are plenty of weeds to pull, the grass needs cutting every week, flower gardens to tend to and so on. Of course – there is always the inside work plus attending to Angel’s needs.

This past week was a little hectic – I discovered on Monday that some person(s) had attempted to break into my house by giving my front door a good solid kick. The attempt was not successful but it did mean I had to purchase a new door and have it installed. The old door was damaged to the point where it was no longer safe – the frame was cracked around the area of the deadbolt lock and entry lock and the frame was weakened considerably. The police were able to get the foot print as it was quite visible on the door. I didn’t need this extra activity in my life.

Now – on to the subject of the post. As I mentioned in my last post, I have been playing around with software that will sync my files on my desktop and laptop computers. I discovered GoodSync which is from the same company that has the RoboForm software – I have been using RoboForm for some years now and highly recommend it.

GoodSync is easy to use and quite fast from what I have seen. I have used it to sync my Quicken files, RoboForm data, FireFox profile and Thunderbird profile. I also plan on using it to sync my photos, My Documents, and some music files. I do have the Pro version and have it installed on my desktop computer so I can use the program from this computer. Because I have the desktop and laptop networked – I am able to see the shared files on the laptop and thus can sync files between the two computers. My understanding is I would need a second license if I wanted to have the software running on my laptop but I haven’t found this necessary in my case. There is a free version which will only sync 3 jobs and 100 files or less  after the trial period is finished.

I have not used GoodSync as a backup program so I cannot comment on the backup feature.

Rather than trying to explain the user interface and so on – I will put the link here to the software and you can read about it at your leisure. If anyone is looking for such a program, I think you will like GoodSync – give the Trial Version a try and see what you think. It is easy to sync some applications like Quicken, QuickBooks RoboForm, Outlook Express, Outlook and Windows Mail (Vista).
